More With Looped Quilled Teardops

I made another card in blue with the Looped Quilled Teardrops, similar to the pink one that I recently showed. I also want to show a birthday card I made last fall in which I used this technique for a butterfly. I love how it turned out, but the picture doesn't show it nearly as well as how it actually looked. The background is again done with the Cuttlebug Victoria embossing folder. And, in case I didn't mention it last time, I stuck the white square on with double sided tape, and then embossed it, so all the pattern matches. This gives a really nice effect, and I do this often. I used pearl blue chalk on the white square, but it doesn't show that well in the picture

Now, here is the butterfly card, using the saphire metalic papers for the fringing, and emerald metallic for the leaves and scrolls. The butterfly is the sapphire metallic, in which I used Luminarts twinkling H2Os paint on the edge, and then I used white holographig edged strips by Jane Jenkins. You can get these at www.whimsiquills.com  I told you they made gorgeous butterflies!   Again, all comments appreciated!

More Christmas Cards!

Well, I've got some more Christmas cards, and am now ahead of my one per week, which is a good thing! I have a couple of quilled ones to show, and a couple of cards I made from kits, that aren't quilled, but I did emboss the backgrounds, which really dressed them up.    All are embossed with Sizzix Texture plates from set #5.  These work really nice, but I use 3 cardstock shims to get them to emboss deeper. This first one is a design by Jane Jenkins © 1983.  It is a Christmas caroller, and I used 1/16" wide strips for her.  For the 2nd one, I again used Jane Jenkins designs© 1983, but modified it by changing the corner design, and adding more scrolls, and holly leaves.  She have quilled mistletoe in the top right corner.

The next 2 are from a kit, in which I bought a few of these, and then changed the layouts, and added the embossing. Besides, the texturz plates for the backgrounds, I took strips and embossed the 'Season's Greetings' & 'Merry Christmas' using the Cuttlebug Season's Greetings folder, that has has rows of different greetings.  So I just used strips,of leftover pearl card, and embossed these two certain ones. The kits come with everything, from pearl cards, which I cut, and put onto my white cards, which makes them go farther. They come with all the embellishments, and even the foam tape squares. I've had these for a while, so thought I should make use out of them.

Pretty in Pink

As you may notice, I often use pink colors on my cards.  This card is one of my favorite techniques.  I first saw it in the NAQG newsletter, but didn't see the detail enough to notice how it was done, or be totally taken by it.  Then, I saw it in person, when we were at a quilling meet in Victoria in October 2008 (That was the best weekend!).   When I got home, I just had to master it. so I played around and practiced to find an easy way to get the look I wanted.  For this card, I used the Victoria embossing folder, which is fitting since I saw it made in Victoria-LOL.

They take a little longer to make but are well worth it! I call them looped teardrops, as I never found a name for them. And, you can fill in the center with a quilled teardrop or leave them empty as in this card below done on light pink faux mulberry background paper.  This one was a Design Team project that I made back in 2008 for the January 2009 Custom Quilling newsletter. This techniques also makes gorgeous butterflies!

This one is bright white on darker pink. It is a simple design of teardrops, marquise and scrolls. The embossing folder is Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy.

Purple Fringed Flowers...

This card was embossed with the Victoria Cuttlebug folder, which is one of my favorites. The flowers are fringed using the Merlot metallic paper. The leaves are Emerald metallic fringed strips. This card can be used for almost any occasion, but I made it particularily for a sympathy card, although it would make a nice thank you card as well.

Now Back To Quilling!

From now on, a lot of my cards are going to feature embossing on the background. I will mostly be using Cuttlebug embossing folders for many of them. These 3, I made in January. I managed to get 2 Christmas cards made. I was hoping to get one made every week, but am already behind. Hopefully I can get caught up...

The birthday card was made for a friend of mine, and everyone at her party just loved it.

I think the embossing adds so much compliment to the quilling without taking away from it. Let me know what you think....

All That Glitters...

Here's a different technique, that I've played with...you might be a little surprised as there is no quilling on these next cards! The technique is simply called Burnished Velvet.

I've played with microfine glitter a few times since last May. This technique is called burnished velvet, and I learned it at Paper Pastimes. A couple of friends graciously let me use their glitter, and double sided tape; as it is something, I unfortunately can't afford to invest in at the moment. Anyways, this is such a neat and creative process!

You take a strip of Sookwang double sided tape (the best double sided tape ever!), and mount it on a strip of cardstock. Then, you punch out shapes, using the tape backing. and place them how you like on the double sided tape. You then pour on your base color of glitter...a little goes such a long way! Then tap is off, and burnish it by rubbing with your finger tips. Next, you remore some of your puched shapes, and add a different color of glitter, tap/brush off, and burnish. Then do again, if you have other shapes. The result is gorgeous, and can only be achieved with microfine glitter, as it is the only one that you can burnish.

So, I made the 2 with the butterflies, and then used peel off leaves for the green one. The Valentine one I just made last week, but am going to add gold cupid punches, as I used ultra fine glitter for them, and they don't show up very well. So having all these glitter strips, I thought I would finally mount them on cardstock. For the embossed butterfly cards I used a Fiskars texture plate in my Big Shot. For the other 2 I used Cuttlebug folders for the embossing.

This is such a creative technique... the designs are endless as to what you can make. I wish the pictures showed them better...

Finally posting some Christmas cards!

Well, Christmas has long come and gone, and here I'm finally posting some cards I got made last November and December. 3 are quilled, and one is a stamped and embossed one, that I made at Paper Pastimes. I loved this one so much that I made about 30 of them to give away this last Christmas! I varied them by using bright white, pearl silver, and ivory as in the card below. We used the snowflake embossing folder from Cuttlebug, and then the stamps were heat embossed.

These next ones are Quilled window cards. I cut several of these window panels, at a local scrap book store, before they permanently closed down. That was a sad day when they closed, as they had such nice selection of papers, and that wonderful Accucut machine.

These both have a vellum in behind the quilling, with a holly print on them.

This card is my 'usual' style. It was a birthday card for one of my Aunts. I hand embossed the flowers and the oval on it.
